Why Louisiana matters for geothermal

Louisiana is one of the states where next-generation geothermal is redrawing the traditional geothermal map. Project InnerSpace’s GeoMap estimates 54 GWe of electricity potential, 1,823 GWth of industrial heat, 874 GWth of cooling, and 2,311 GWth of district heat. With support from InnerSpace Action, Louisiana passed HR 279 93-3 and officially recognizes geothermal energy as a major strategic opportunity to leverage the state’s existing oil and gas workforce. It also calls for the state to build the regulatory framework needed to scale local geothermal resources.
